ADGM Academy Research Centre, in collaboration with the College of Business and Economics at the United Arab Emirates University, has published a new research paper, Innovation in the Financial Sector of the United Arab Emirates: A Comprehensive Analysis. The paper examines how innovation is shaping the UAE’s banking and financial services sector, drawing on academic research and interviews with 13 banking and financial services institutions operating in the UAE.
The paper explores the key drivers of innovation, including technological change, evolving customer expectations, regulatory reform, fintech competition, cybersecurity risk, sustainability priorities and global market shifts. It also highlights that successful innovation is not only about adopting new technologies, but also about leadership, culture, talent, governance, customer focus and collaboration across the financial ecosystem.
The findings offer practical insights for banks, regulators, fintechs, technology providers and other stakeholders seeking to strengthen competitiveness, resilience and responsible growth in the UAE financial sector.
